FTSE CLOSE: Footsie plummets deep into red in global markets rout

The FTSE 100 closed down 203.22 points at 5673.58 on a day of carnage on world financial markets. The oil price continued its descent, with Brent at $27.65 and US WTI crude at $26.90.
